KQED HAS BIG LISTENER DECLINE IN ONE-YEAR PPM TRENDS



Today we continue our comparison of eight competitive NPR News stations including an INSTANT FM station in Florida. The charts below contain Nielsen Audio PPM data (courtesy of RRC) for May 2014 & 2015.

BIGGEST GAINERS & DECLINERS

KUOW gained over 56,000 Weekly Listeners from 2014 to 2015. The biggest gain in AQH Share was Wisconsin Public Radio’s WHAD, Milwaukee, up 0.7%. We reported in WHAD and WUWM last week [link].

By far the biggest one-year decline in Weekly Listeners was at KQED. (KQED’s AQH Share dropped from 5.3% to 4.1%.) WUWM, Milwaukee had the biggest AQH Share decline 3.2% in May 2014 to 1.6 in May 2015.

NEW & NOTABLE: WEST PALM BEACH INSTANT FM

[Scroll down to see the PPM data).  American Public Media (“APM”) created an INSTANT FM STATION a couple of years ago when they began repeating Classical WPBI’s HD2 channel on FM translator W270AD 101.9 FM. They cover a nice area north of Miami:


Keep in mind WLRN is an out-of-market signal and it has many more listeners in the Miami metro.

  1. The WRAS/GPB deal was pushed back a month from its original start date, so they started in early July 2014.
