STUCK IN TRAFFIC = BIGGER RADIO LISTENING OPPORTUNITY • “CURRENT” NEEDS A SALES PRO • CORRECTED RATINGS FOR DELMARVA

Congestion on I-10 in West LA
We’ve all heard that radio is the king of car – the top information and entertainment choice by drivers in vehicles of all types.

Now new research by INRIX [link], a company based in London and Seattle that studies the movement of people and goods.

INRIX has developed metrics that measure congestion times and locations in granular detail.

INRIX has recently released the latest edition of their Global Traffic Scorecard about congestion in cities around the world.

Guess what, the most congested major metro area is Los Angeles, followed closely by Moscow.

According to the Scorecard, New York’s Cross Bronx Expressway is ranked as the U.S.’s worst corridor where the average driver is stuck in stop-and-go congestion for 118 hours per year,

Another stretch of road where commuters are likely to find congestion is the 10 Freeway in LA between the 110 and the 405.

Several points on the Ventura Freeway (101) are also in the top ten. You will likely find the least congestion in South Bend, Indiana.

On the right is an INRIX chart showing congestion in North American metro areas.

According the INRIX, the metric to watch is Peak Hours Spent in Congestion, the estimated number of hours a driver will be stuck in traffic that is moving at five miles-per-hour or less.

In media terms, you can call these folks a captive audience.

CURRENT IS LOOKING FOR A MARKETING PRO

Our friends at Current [link], the publication of-record for public radio and television, is looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial, organized, detail-oriented ad person to market print display and digital advertising. This is job where someone can really make a difference in public.

As Spark News readers may recall, in July 2017, we posted [link] an article about Current’s struggle to survive financially in challenging advertising environment.

The person who gets this gig will be a contractor for now, but, hopefully the job will be full-time with benefits soon. Remote workers with dependable computers, internet and phone service welcome to apply. To apply, send a cover letter and resume asap to Julie Drizin – Julie@current.org.

KEN SAYS: Given Current’s current situation, this job is for a person who sees it as an opportunity, not a risk. Current has become successful on several platforms and has a terrific editorial staff. This job could be a stepping-stone to bigger things either at Current or within public media. You will be talking with the people and organizations that make public media happen.

AND NOW, THE ACTUAL NIELSEN AUDIO RATINGS FOR SALISBURY-OCEAN CITY

Thank you to Spark News reader Brian Marchan who notified us that we had the wrong information for two stations in the ratings chart for Salisbury-Ocean City. The chart on the left has the correct Nielsen Audio data.

If you see any typos please let us know. I have very limited eye-sight and spell check doesn’t catch these kind of errors.
