Dean Baquet |
Public
Radio Regional Organizations (PRRO) has announced that Dean Baquet, Executive
Editor of The New York Times, will be
the keynote speaker at PRRO’s Super-Regional Meeting October 15 – 17 at the
Jung Hotel in New Orleans [link].
Baquet’s
remarks are scheduled for the Super-Regional’s opening session on Wednesday
(10/16) at 8:15am. His keynote has a timely and somewhat provocative title: Leading Through Change and Why Reporting
Matters in an Age of Opinion and Snark.
The
event is a homecoming of sorts for Baquet. He was born and raised in New
Orleans. His father is restaurateur Edward Baquet
and his family is prominent in the community.
Baquet
has been Executive Editor of The Times
since May 2014. Before his current
assignment, Baquet worked as a reporter and editor at The Chicago Tribune and The Los
Angeles Times. While at The Tribune,
in 1988, Baquet was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting when he led a team of
reporters that documented corruption and influence peddling in the Chicago City
Council.
You

Radio Conference (PRC), held until the early 200s. At the Meeting station
managers and other decision-makers discuss public radio system plans and issues
with representative of CPB and NPR.
PRRO,
the sponsor of the Super-Regional, is consortium of regional organizations
including California Public Radio, Eastern
Region Public Media, Public

SPRING NIELSEN AUDIO
RATINGS FOR ROANOKE, LANSING & FORT WAYNE
When
WVTF in Roanoke became a full-time NPR News/Talk station in 2017 the new
they were taking a chance. But, as you can see in the Spring 2019 ratings
chart, things have worked out very well. The 6.1 AQH share is a record high for
WVTF.
When
WVTF made the change, they moved Classical music to its own full-time station
WWVT. In case you aren’t familiar with Contemporary Christian WRVL, they are
another growing outreach service of Liberty University.
In
Lansing-East Lansing there are two NPR News stations that lead commercial
News/Talk WJIM.
WKAR-FM is still a dual-format station and Michigan Radio
(WUOM) offers full-time NPR News/Talk from Ann Arbor.
WLNZ
continues to evolve from an old-school community station to become a for-real AAA
station.
Peter
Dominowski and company are doing well in Fort Wayne. Northeast Indiana Public
Radio is nearing the end of a successful capitol campaign and will soon move to a 14,000
square foot building in the heart of the city. Congratulations!
