OCTOBER PPM RATINGS: WGBH SURGES PAST WBUR IN BOSTON

WGBH is having a revival, of sorts. They just beat WBUR in AQH shares in the October Nielsen Audio PPM.

We looked at AQH and estimated weekly listeners (“Cume”) for the two Boston stations since October 2016. At that time, WGBH was at high point in both AQH and Cume. Then there was a stumble.

When the chart picks up in June 2019, WBUR has a big lead on WGBH in both metrics. Then WGBH rises again as Fall 2019 kicks in.

These are two great stations at the top of their games. There is no other battle quite like WBUR and WBGH. Best of all, the beneficiaries are the people of Boston.

Looking at the full noncom Boston market, little has changed in a month.

In Seattle-Tacoma, the biggest mover is Classical WCRB. They have been having nice gains in AQH share.  WCRB reminds us of the solid performances by KDFC and WETA.

The big question in the Minneapolis-St, Paul October PPM ratings is what happened to KCMP 89.3 The Current? The drops in both AQH shares and estimated weekly listeners seem unbelievable. Maybe the dog ran off with PPM meter again.

High in the Colorado Rockies, Denver’s CPR News flagship KCFR is doing very, very well.

Indie 102.3 has taken the progressive rock lead.

Virtually all of people who listen to The Drop listen to it via streaming audio.

According to consultant Mike Henry, the narrow target for The Drop is 25 – 34. 55% of the total audience is within that demo. Time spent listening to The Drop by the average listener is 3-hours.

Not a fan Rhythmic music or Hip-Hop but I did listen to The Drop, and it sounds no different than your commercial Urban or Rhythmic station...other than playing music that the commercial formats tend to avoid...but the station presentation sounds no different. I still prefer KUVO's main Jazz programming.

You Mean Classical KING-FM. Was created for the late owner in mind (Dorothy Stimson Bullitt), playing her favorite music. KING-AM played the more mass appeal popular and the focus was building TV news on KING-TV.
