MY FIRST JOB IN RADIO

Every once in a while someone will ask about my first job in radio. Sometimes I hesitate because it makes me feel older than dirt. You see, I started in radio October 1, 1967. The first record I played on the air was Get Off My Cloud by the Rolling Stones.

As you can see in the image on the left, fall of 1967 was a “golden” time to work in Top 40 radio.

There were some great artists and tunes on the chart in October of '67: Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson and People Are Strange by the Doors are still played a my house today.

Some of the entries on the chart are embarrassing in 2019. 

Bill Cosby topped the chart back then.WTF?

Though I started in the biz in a small market, I worked with some real pros. I feel grateful today to have had such mentors.
