At
KERA-FM [link], the news waits for no one. Now KERA is the #1 radio news
source in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
In the May ratings, KERA topped commercial news giants WBAP and KRLD in both AQH and weekly listeners.
This
didn’t happen overnight. KERA has been building its news team over the past
several years. Now there are more than 25 reporters, producers, editors and
hosts. As good as they are, KERA’s “secret sauce” is the way they initiate news
and investigative reporting.
KERA’s
Digital Storytelling uses multiple platforms including compelling audio, video,
images and graphics for unequaled comprehensive coverage.
The ongoing series One Crises Away [link] provides
documentaries that tell about crises the people of Texas endure and overcome.
An
ongoing weekly series on KERA is Breakthroughs
[link] with the latest innovations in health, science and technology.
Breakthroughs
made national news recently for a story about new Enzyme discoveries [link].
KERA
has served listeners since it began in July 1974. The station evolved from a
dual format of NPR News and AAA music. In 2000 KERA became a full-time news/talk
station. One of KERA’s music hosts in the 1990s was Abby Goldstein, now
president of PRPD.
Meanwhile, KERA’s sister station KXT had their best “book” in over a year.
KXT increased both their AQH share and their estimated weekly listeners.
Dallas-Fort
Worth has perhaps the most competitive race between Christian Contemporary
Music (CCM) stations in the nation.
Three noncom stations battle it out with a commercial CCM station owned by Salem Broadcasting.
