“BUILDING RESILIENCE” WEBINAR HAPPENS NEXT TUESDAY (6/16) • ANOTHER COLLEGE GIVES AWAY THEIR LICENSE

During these challenging times, there is growing concern about the increasing demand for additional revenue at stations and other public media organizations.

To address the need, four groups are conducting a webinar – Building Resilience – to discuss immediate needs and plans for long-term sustainability. The sponsors of the webinar are Current, Greater Public, the Public Radio Program Directors (PRPD) and the Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA).

The webinar is scheduled to happen on Tuesday June 16th at 2:00pm ET. The event is free. Registration and more information are available here.

The host and moderator of the webinar is Joyce MacDonald, CEO OF Greater Public. The panel will include Luke Dennis, GM of WYSO and DeLinda Mrowkam, Chief Audience Officer at KQED.

They will share how their organizations are creating strategic plans for revenue growth, even though it is hard to predict revenue and expenses in an uncertain future.

A major topic of discussion will be ways to build deeper connections with listeners, members, donors and underwriters. The webinar will demonstrate how stations are using content and engagement to increase their Return on Investment (ROI).

ANOTHER DAY & ANOTHER COLLEGE STATION IS GIVING AWAY THEIR BROADCAST LICENSE

St Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota, has agreed to donate the FCC license for their campus radio station, KSMR 92.5 FM, to Catholic broadcaster Real Presence Radio. The deal also includes a translator at 94.3 FM.

KSMR had been part of college life at St. Mary’s since the station signed on in 1979.

In September 2019, KSMR went off the air because of an equipment failure at the transmitter. St. Mary’s decided to not to sign the station back on because of the expense and the fact that KSMR wasn’t bringing in enough revenue to pay the bills.
